A new creative writing group, by teens, for teens. Sign up in advance at the library reference desk.

Beatniks & Berets: Teen Poetry Cafe
Monday, April 12
5:30-7pm
Beatnik-themed event where you can read and listen to poetry with your friends. Dress the part, sign up at the reference desk, enjoy free coffee and pastries.

Pizzamania Book Club

The Poetry Bomb Couch Surfing Across America Tour of Words 2010
Saturday, April 10

Poet and actor S. A. Griffin will launch "the poetry bomb" as part of a National Poetry Month celebration. The library will be the first stop on a national tour featuring a former U.S. military practice bomb, now converted into a beautiful object filled with poetry from around the world.

Each audience member will be invited to read one poem of their own creation, two minutes or less, and to contribute their poem to the Poetry Bomb. Mr. Griffin will also be reading some of his work. A question-and-answer session will follow. More information on Facebook here.

Words Aloud: Open Mic at the Library

New monthly open mic night program for writers. Bring up to four minutes of your best prose: fiction, memoir, personal narrative, creative nonfiction, fragments and snippets, and join this friendly and diverse group of writers and readers. All ages and genres of prose are welcome. Sign ups start at 5:30 and we turn off the mic by 7:45; readers are chosen at random. The event is cosponsored by The Encinitas Library and San Diego Writers, Ink.

Concert: Folk Inspirations

Take a journey to distant lands with a concert inspired by folk music from Europe and Asia. Returning from a trip to Italy, composer-in-residence Matthew Tommasini brings us a new work flavored with a wild folk dance called the pizzica. Part of the Connections Chamber Music Series.
