The Poetry Bomb Couch Surfing Across America Tour of Words 2010

Poet and actor S. A. Griffin will launch "the poetry bomb" as part of a National Poetry Month celebration. The library will be the first stop on a national tour featuring a former U.S. military practice bomb, now converted into a beautiful object filled with poetry from around the world.

Each audience member will be invited to read one poem of their own creation, two minutes or less, and to contribute their poem to the Poetry Bomb. Mr. Griffin will also be reading some of his work. A question-and-answer session will follow. More information on Facebook here.

Party Like It's 1939!

In honor of the Big Read, the library is holding many events relating to the 1930s and the Great Depression era. At this event, we'll have an afternoon of old-fashioned entertainment such as families might have enjoyed during the 1930’s. Several board games, including Monopoly (introduced by Parker Bros. in 1935) and jigsaw puzzles will be available to play, plus prizes, free refreshments and a Three Stooges mini movie marathon!

For this year's Big Read, the library has selected John Steinbeck's classic tale of poverty, fear and struggle The Grapes of Wrath. During the month of February, the library will be showing a series of films on similar themes, or with stories set in the same, Depression Era time period. Call the library for titles.
